New York Is Lagging as Seas and Risks Rise, Critics Warn

In this blog I am responding to an assignment in my ENG 101 composition class on climate change. The assignment asked me to summary the main idea of the article New York Is Lagging as Seas and Risks Rise, Critics Warn  and  the best idea from one of the first three "Reader's Picks" comments to the article.

According to the article, NewYork is facing the interwoven threats because of rising seas and storm flooding. Since oceans become warmed and is expanding, the rising rate of sea level is accelerating and flood happens more frequently. The flooding threat is growing gradually. The flood paralyzes the subway system, cripples the financial district and even drives resident from home. Generally, federal assistance is vital to change the situation.However, city officials do not take effective measures to solve the problem. They prefer to improve the ability of city to recover from  flooding rather than to prevent  flood from threating city. They are only concerned about the economic development but ignore the importance of environment. But the flooding makes NewYork city's economy suffer huge loss. Therefore, officials should incorporate flood-protection measures, as building some barriers, into projects to amoring the city. They should carry out some measures to stop the flood from ocurring in order to resolve the problem fundamentally.

From a reader Jim Gordon's comment, I know that the important measure is to quickly transit to clean and renew energy. Building sea gates will pollute the environment,cause disaster and accelarate the climate change. I agree with him. The original reason of climate change is the environmental pollution, like carbon dioxide pollution, which cause the sea level rising and the flooding. However, building barriers is the protection measure for flooding rather than  the solution for environmental pollution. In other words, building barriers can not make difference to  the climate change. The increasing essimision of  Carbon dioxide  accelarates the environmental pollution. The best way to reduce the pollution is to recycle resource and renew energy so that we can slow down the pace of climate change.
